All about Scoliosis and Spine Care
There is a great number of people who are not familiar with scoliosis. However, there is no need to worry since this article is going to make it easy for them. The abnormal curving of the spine laterally is what is known as scoliosis. When it comes to scoliosis most of the people suffering from it are children and also adolescents. Most of the time the curvature of the spine occurs in common places like the lumbar region, cervical and the thoracic region. There is need to ensure the spine has a natural curve. The main reason for this is to ensure the head is supported by the pelvis hence the spine acting like a shock absorber. When the spine acts like a shock absorber it is normally known to distribute the stress that mechanical equally in the spine. Most of the time the definition of scoliosis is the curvature that normally occurs in the coronal plane. Also, this is the plane that is normally used to measure the curvature of the spine. However, the problem of scoliosis is known to affect three different planes that are sagittal plane, coronal plane and the axial plane.
The three different planes are known to divide the body into different parts. Like the coronal plane it is normally known to divide the bod into two different parts that is the posterior and the anterior. Also, the coronal plane is known to run from head to the legs. On the other hand there is the sagittal plane that divides the body into the left and right parts. Lastly, there is the axial plane. The plane is known to act parallel to the ground, therefore due to this it will appear perpendicular to the coronal and the sagittal plane. After proper research has been done it has been discovered that the percentage of people who suffer from this problem make a percentage of two to three. There are high chances that scoliosis will form in children that are at their early childhood or infants.
The onset of scoliosis is most at the age of ten years to fifteen years. However, this medical problem is not gender biased hence it equally affects both of the genders. Even though the condition is not gender biased, the females who are known to suffer from this condition are not to have a great probability of their spine having a maximum curve that would require immediate treatment. When it comes to scoliosis there are different kinds of classifications according to etiology. The classifications will include congenital, idiopathic and neuromuscular. The classification that makes the largest percentage of the people suffering is the idiopathic scoliosis.
On the other hand the congenital scoliosis is normally known to be an embryonic malformation. In this type of scoliosis there can be more than one malformation in any part of the spine. The curvature of the spine then occurs as a result of one part of the spine being longer than the other. There are different signs and symptoms that can shows formation of scoliosis. They include both or one hip being unusually high, uneven waist, height difference of the rib cage, uneven shoulders etc.
